The right football boots

There are many different types of football boots. First, you determine which type of field you'll use the boots for. Do you play on natural grass, artificial turf, or do you play indoors? For every type of field there are suitable football boots. Only use your football boots on the surface they're suitable for. If you play football on a different type of field with them, the risk of injury is greater. You could slip more easily or your feet could get stuck instead. Muscle tears and other strains can be the result.

Studs

The number of studs and the shape of the studs determine which type of surface the football boot is suitable for. Football boots suitable for artificial turf have studs that are close together. Football boots suitable for hard or soft surfaces often have a Traxion sole, meaning the sole has broad, elongated studs near the ball of the foot and the heel. Football boots suitable for hard surfaces have short studs, and football boots suitable for soft surfaces have long studs.

Football boots are also divided into 5 categories: FG, SG, TF, AG and IN.

FG is an abbreviation of firm ground. With these football boots you have a lot of grip on natural grass. These boots have elongated or short studs. The studs are fixed to the sole. Your personal preference determines whether you go for elongated or short studs. We recommend not using firm ground football boots on artificial turf. The boots wear out faster on artificial turf, which voids the factory warranty.SG is the abbreviation for soft ground and is suitable for playing football on soft, wet fields. The long, metal screw-in studs provide a lot of grip. This makes the risk of slipping much smaller.TF stands for turf, and these boots have many short studs. With these you have good grip on a hard surface, such as artificial turf fields.AG is an abbreviation for artificial ground. These football boots have short, hard studs and are therefore suitable for playing football on artificial turf fields.IN stands for indoor, meaning you can play football indoors with these football boots. The sole is designed to give you good grip on an indoor floor and lets you move with complete freedom.MG stands for multiground, meaning you can play football with these boots on both artificial turf and regular grass. Multiground football boots feature a combination of AG studs and FG studs.

Material

Material also plays a role in your choice of the right football boots. Leather football boots fit like a second skin. Leather does need a lot of maintenance, though. Football boots made from a synthetic material are often lighter, allowing you to gain more speed with them. The specific properties of the football boots are described in the detailed product descriptions.

Maintenance

To enjoy your football boots for as long as possible, you need to maintain them well. Use a brush and water to clean the boots after playing football. Do not use cleaning agents, as this can damage the stitching. Leather boots need a bit of extra attention. Grease leather football boots once a week with a clear grease. This keeps the leather supple and prevents tears.

Take the football boots out of your bag so they can air out. If your boots are wet, you can stuff them with balled-up newspaper. Then let the boots dry in a natural way.

Tip

It's important that you wear the right size. Sizes differ per brand, so check the size chart for the relevant boot.

Do you have new boots? Wet them before you play in them, this will help the boots mould (even) better to your feet!

Football boots with a high elastic collar require a bit of extra patience! At first the boots might be a bit tricky to put on, but once you have them on they'll probably feel very comfortable.
