Types of swimwear

For men and boys there are swim shorts and swim briefs. The swim short is this summer's trend, great both in the pool and on a summer day paired with a trendy shirt and slippers. Swim briefs are sleek, close-fitting trunks in various styles. Thanks to their streamlined shape they're popular with competitive swimmers, but recreational swimmers can just as easily go for a stylish pair.

For women and girls there are swimsuits. The one-piece swimsuit is back. Competitive swimmers wear one to keep resistance to a minimum. Swimsuits are also designed so the straps stay put, so you never have to think about your outfit while swimming. These days you'll spot more swimsuits on the beach too, with fun designs and colours making them fully on-trend again.

Swimwear features

Comfort is key, so you can feel confident in your swimwear. It should fit well and not be too loose, since fabric relaxes in the water. Most swimwear is made from polyester, a soft fabric that dries quickly. If you swim often, chlorine resistance matters too.

Sustainable swimwear

Sadly it's not just plastic that ends up in the sea, old fishing nets are a problem too. To keep oceans clean and stop animals getting tangled, these nets are collected, cleaned and broken down into a new fabric. Recycled fishing nets are often used to make swim shorts and swimsuits, so in a way they end up back in the sea (or the pool) for a good cause!
