The Biggest Difference

The abbreviation AG in the name of a football shoe indicates that the shoes are specifically designed for use on artificial grass. The biggest difference between regular football shoes and artificial grass shoes lies in the sole. The studs on regular football shoes are longer, which can lead to injuries on artificial grass. A special artificial grass shoe offers more grip and less risk of injury, as it has more studs, but they are shorter than those on regular football shoes. The shorter studs improve your agility, making it easier to perform turning movements.

Regular Football Shoes on Artificial Grass

When playing on artificial grass with regular football shoes, the risk of injury is much higher compared to wearing artificial grass shoes. The long studs on regular football shoes provide good grip on natural grass, as they sink slightly into the ground. On artificial grass, however, the risk is that the longer studs can get stuck when trying to turn, which can result in serious injuries to your knees or ankles.

Maintenance

After a training session or match, it's recommended to clean your shoes with a soft brush. Shoes made of synthetic leather can be cleaned with a little water if necessary. Once you get home, make sure to remove your shoes from your bag immediately and let them dry at room temperature. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight or near a heater, as the heat can damage the material and cause the shoes to shrink.
