Why wear a skate helmet while skating?

Nothing is more important than your head! To protect it well while skating, we recommend wearing a skate helmet. There is no helmet requirement for recreational skaters in the Netherlands, but it is mandatory for competitions and tours. Remember that you can reach high speeds while skating, so without a helmet, you are very vulnerable!

The helmet should not be too tight but also not too loose. If it shifts, it may not provide optimal protection when you fall. A helmet with air vents helps keep your head cool, contributing to the comfort of wearing the helmet.

If you can't find a suitable skate helmet, consider looking at cycling helmets, which are also suitable for skating.

The right protection for elbows and knees.

Knees and elbows often take hard hits when you fall. Elbow and knee protectors can prevent fractures, bruises, and abrasions.

When falling at a considerable speed, it is important for the protectors to stay in place. The elbow and knee protectors should not be too loose or too tight. If they are too tight, it restricts movement and hinders free skating.

Don't forget wrist protection while skating!

The most common injury among skaters is a wrist injury. When falling forward, you naturally extend your hands to catch yourself. Besides getting abrasions, you can also bruise or break your wrists. By wearing wrist protectors, you can prevent wrist injuries from falls.

Although wearing a skate helmet is mandatory during competitions, it is actually prohibited to wear hard wrist protectors during a competition. You could injure other participants by hitting them in the face.

Tips: Have you had a hard fall? You may not see it on the outside, but the protection could be significantly damaged. If you want to ensure your safety, it's best to purchase new protectors.
