What is soccer?
Soccer is an accessible sport; all you need to play is a soccer ball. It is a ball game where two teams of eleven players each try to score by getting the ball into the opponent's goal. With over 3,000 soccer clubs, there is likely one near you where you can become a member. There are also many variations of soccer that don’t require a full team or opponents, such as juggling, shooting at the goal, or hitting the crossbar, where you score points by hitting the bar.
What do you need for soccer?
To play matches, you need a few essential items. Of course, you can't play soccer without a ball. Besides the uniform, which includes soccer shorts, a shirt, and socks, you also need soccer shoes. Under the socks, you must wear shin guards to be allowed to play matches. Women should wear a sports bra under the shirt.
All these items are essential for playing soccer. Additionally, there are accessories and clothing items that contribute to a hassle-free game but are not mandatory. Many players wear sliding shorts to protect their legs during a slide tackle. A headband keeps hair out of the face, and there are special straps to keep the shin guards in place during play.
It's handy to store all these items in a soccer bag. These bags are specially designed for the sport, and many have a dedicated compartment for storing soccer shoes.
Is playing soccer healthy?
Playing soccer involves a lot of movement, which is good for your body. Additionally, you usually play in the fresh outdoor air. Training and matches improve your fitness, coordination, and ball control.
Besides being a physical activity, soccer is also a social one. You play with your teammates and work together to achieve the best possible result. You learn to function in a team and to handle both victories and setbacks. The social aspect is also significantly enhanced by the third half.
Tip
Make sure you are well-warmed up before starting training or a match, as this reduces the risk of injury.
