What Does a Goalkeeper Outfit Consist Of?
As a goalkeeper, you often use your hands, so good goalkeeper gloves are essential for protection. To stop the ball, you might need to dive, and a goalkeeper shirt and shorts are equipped with special padding to protect you from bruises and abrasions.
Goalkeeper Gloves
Goalkeeper gloves come with or without fingersave technology. Gloves with fingersave have small plastic or metal reinforcements behind the fingers to prevent them from bending backward. While these gloves are less flexible, they significantly reduce the risk of finger injuries. Gloves without fingersave offer more flexibility, better grip, and ball feel but do not protect against backward finger bending.
Goalkeeper Shorts
Long goalkeeper shorts have additional padding at the knees and hips. This padding absorbs impacts and prevents abrasions. Short goalkeeper shorts provide protection only at the hips. Additionally, goalkeeper shorts are made from moisture-wicking materials to keep you dry and comfortable.
Goalkeeper Shirts
The primary functions of a goalkeeper shirt are to regulate body temperature and protect against abrasions and bruises. Goalkeeper shirts feature protective padding at the elbows, where falls during a dive can be particularly hard. The shirts are also made from breathable materials that partially block the wind and wick away sweat.
