What Happens Without Slippers?
In shower areas, there are often many fungi that are not necessarily harmful to the feet. Healthy skin has a dry, tough outer layer that protects against these fungi. During a match or training, you produce sweat, including on your feet. This makes the skin softer, reducing the protective function of the outer layer. As a result, fungi present in the shower area can penetrate the skin more easily. These fungi are very small and grow on the skin, often between the toes, causing blisters, peeling, or cracks. This can lead to itching or even pain. To prevent this, we recommend wearing slippers while showering.
Fungi can also grow in and around the toenails. If this happens, the nail becomes thick, yellow, and brittle. This is easily preventable by wearing slippers. Additionally, slippers provide better grip, reducing the risk of slipping.
Is It Dangerous?
No, for most people, fungi are not truly dangerous, although itching and pain can be quite bothersome. Additionally, the feet may look less attractive and fresh. However, for some individuals, such as those with diabetes, fungi can be more harmful. Diabetes impairs the body's ability to fend off fungi, which can penetrate deeper into the skin and cause infections.
Tips
Fungi can also develop if you put on your shoes with damp feet. Make sure to dry your feet thoroughly after showering, especially between the toes.
