What types of football shoes are there for kids?

Kids play football on the street, on small pitches, indoors, on artificial turf or on natural grass. Each type of surface calls for specific shoes. Only use the shoes on the surface they're designed for. Using them on a different surface increases the risk of injury. You could slip, or your feet could get stuck, which can lead to muscle tears or strains. Shoes will also wear out faster on the wrong surface.

Which studs should I choose for kids' football shoes?

The studs determine which type of pitch the shoes are suitable for. The number and shape of the studs both play a role. Studs placed close together are suitable for artificial turf. Short studs are suitable for hard surfaces. Long studs are suitable for soft surfaces. The different stud types are indicated with various abbreviations:

FG stands for Firm Ground. These shoes are suitable for playing on natural grass. You can choose between elongated or short studs. We recommend not using firm ground football shoes on artificial turf. The shoes wear out faster on artificial turf, which voids the manufacturer's warranty.
SG stands for Soft Ground. These shoes are suitable for playing on soft, wet pitches. Soft Ground football shoes have long, metal screw-in studs. This gives them plenty of grip and a low risk of slipping.
TF stands for Turf. These football shoes have lots of short studs and are suitable for playing on a hard surface, such as artificial turf pitches.
AG stands for Artificial Ground. These football shoes are suitable for playing on artificial turf pitches. The shoes have short, hard studs.
IN stands for indoor. These are the indoor football shoes. With these shoes your child gets good grip on an indoor court.
MG stands for multiground. Multiground football shoes are true all-rounders, since you can use them on artificial turf as well as on regular grass!

What are the best football shoes for kids?

Kids often want to follow in the footsteps of their football hero and wear the same shoes their idols wear on the pitch! The Nike shoes of Frenkie or the Puma shoes of Neymar, luckily these specific models are all available in kids' sizes. Besides Nike and Puma, don't forget the Adidas Shoes for kids. The best football shoes for kids offer enough grip, good ball control and of course a perfect fit, so you can shine on the pitch.

Of course, your position on the pitch also plays a role in which football shoes suit you best. A defensive player is more likely to choose a strong shoe with a great fit, such as the Nike Tiempo shoes. A midfielder mainly wants to deliver the perfect passes forward, so outstanding ball control and a lightweight shoe are important. The Nike Phantom, Puma Future or Adidas Predator football shoes are well suited for this. Are you an attacker? Then speed is your middle name, and lightweight shoes with good grip are essential. Check out the Nike Mercurial, Puma Future or Adidas Speedflow!

Kids' football shoes: leather or synthetic?

You can choose between football shoes made from leather or synthetic leather. Each material has its pros and cons. Leather breathes well and lasts longer. Leather shoes also mould more to the shape of the feet. On the other hand, leather needs more maintenance and leather shoes retain more moisture. Synthetic football shoes handle different weather conditions better and need less maintenance. They're also often lighter, allowing for more speed. Synthetic football shoes do wear out faster, mould less well to the feet and are less breathable.

How do I keep my football shoes clean?

It's important to maintain football shoes properly. Clean the shoes with a soft brush after a match or training session. For shoes made from synthetic leather you can use water. Don't use cleaning products, as these are bad for the stitching. For leather football shoes it's better not to use water. Synthetic football shoes don't need to be greased, but leather ones do. Regularly grease leather football shoes to keep them supple and prevent cracking. Make sure the shoes don't stay in the football bag. It's not good to let the shoes dry inside the bag. Never put football shoes on the radiator or in the sun to dry. If the shoes get wet, stuff them with newspaper. The newspaper will absorb the moisture.

What size football shoes do I need?

Make sure your child wears the right size football shoes. Don't buy shoes that are too big for them to grow into. Shoes that are too big can cause injuries and reduce ball feel. Check the size charts to see which size your child needs. This can vary by brand. Have your child try on football shoes at the end of the afternoon, since feet expand throughout the day. Have your child try the shoes on with their socks and shin guards on. This way you can properly check whether the shoes fit well.
