Conditions for screw-in studs
It isn't forbidden to play football in boots with screw-in studs, but there are a few conditions. As long as the studs are well maintained, they can be worn on any football pitch. The studs must not have sharp edges.
The advantage of screw-in studs is that they offer plenty of grip thanks to the long, strong studs. These football boots can therefore also be worn very well on wet, slippery pitches. They're also very suitable for goalkeepers. You can recognise football boots with screw-in studs by the letters SG after the product name. SG stands for Soft Ground.
You can also remove the studs and replace them with shorter ones. The boots are then suitable to wear on dry football pitches. Your child can therefore use the boots on multiple surfaces. These boots also last longer, because worn studs are easy to replace.
Downsides
A football boot with screw-in studs also has a few downsides. The boots are less stable on a harder surface, because they only have 6 to 8 fairly long studs. They also require a lot of maintenance. These boots are therefore not suitable if you don't want to look after them after training or a match.
Maintenance
Maintenance is therefore very important for these football boots. The boots must be kept clean, and not just on top, but especially underneath too. Regularly loosen the screw studs and grease the thread with acid-free petroleum jelly. Then tighten the studs again, but not too tight. Tight is tight.
