The right goalkeeper gloves for kids
Your hands take quite a beating while keeping goal. That's why it's important to protect them properly by wearing goalkeeper gloves. There are several types available. We're happy to explain what these types are and how best to look after your gloves, so you can enjoy them for as long as possible.
Which goalkeeper gloves for which surface?
Just like with football boots, the surface you play on matters a lot when it comes to goalkeeper gloves! Using gloves meant for natural grass on artificial turf? Then they'll likely wear out a lot faster. That's because goalkeeper gloves for natural grass have a softer foam layer than gloves for artificial turf. This soft foam layer offers great grip, but will also wear out faster if not used on the right surface. Do you mostly keep goal on artificial turf or indoors? Then hardground goalkeeper gloves are your best choice! These gloves have a firmer, more durable foam layer, so you'll enjoy them for longer. This doesn't mean gloves for natural grass can't be used on artificial turf or indoors (or vice versa), but they'll last longest when used on the surface they're designed for!
Goalkeeper gloves with or without finger save
Goalkeeper gloves with finger save have a kind of small splint behind the fingers, so your fingers can't bend backwards. This splint reduces flexibility and grip on the ball. Young goalkeepers are advised to start with gloves without finger save. This trains and strengthens the hands and fingers better. Later on, they can switch to gloves with finger save if they want. These gloves offer more protection than gloves without finger save.
How do I look after my goalkeeper gloves?
To enjoy your goalkeeper gloves for as long as possible, it's important to look after them properly. You can clean the gloves after training or a match with lukewarm running tap water. Don't use a hard brush. Gently squeeze the gloves, don't wring them out. Always keep the gloves slightly damp, this improves grip and extends their lifespan. If the gloves sit in the cupboard for a while, dampen them occasionally to prevent them from drying out and cracking.
