Why Thermal Clothing for Women?

During winter sports, you are active, but there are also moments when you're not in motion. In both situations, it is important that your body stays at the right temperature. The main function of thermal clothing is to regulate your body temperature. It is the layer that, except for your underwear, is closest to your skin. Additionally, thermal clothing quickly wicks away sweat. This keeps your body dry and comfortable.

The 3-Layer System

The basis for your clothing choice is the 3-layer system. By considering these 3 layers, you will stay at the right temperature in all weather conditions.
Layer 1: Thermal clothing. Thermal clothing ensures that your body stays warm and dry. This layer is also known as the base or underlayer.
Layer 2: Ski pullover. Layer 2 helps retain heat and allows sweat to be further transported away, also known as the insulating or mid-layer.
Layer 3: Ski jacket and ski pants. Ski jackets and pants protect you from rain, snow, and wind. This is called the waterproof or outer layer.

You wear thermal clothing as the first layer. An air layer forms between your skin and the thermal clothing, and this air layer helps retain body heat. This layer is thicker if the thermal clothing is bulkier and looser. The main purpose of this layer is to keep you warm. Thermal clothing that is thinner and fits more closely to your body is designed primarily to wick away sweat and is better suited for higher temperatures.

Winter vs. Summer

Thermal clothing is available for both summer and winter. The main difference is the thickness and fit of the thermal clothing. Winter thermal clothing is thicker and focused on keeping your body warm, while summer thermal clothing is thinner and ensures your body stays cool and dry by wicking away sweat.

Which thermal clothing to choose depends on the weather conditions and the activity you're planning. Keep in mind that during winter sports, you will be moving a lot and getting warm. Therefore, avoid overly thick thermal clothing.

Material

Thermal clothing is usually made from synthetic fabrics or Merino wool. In both cases, the benefits include lightweight material, moisture-wicking properties, and quick-drying capabilities. Merino wool does not itch and has the added advantage of staying fresh-smelling.

Pants, Shirts, or Sets

Thermal clothing consists of thermal pants, thermal shirts, or thermal sets. A thermal set includes a matching shirt and pants. Thermal pants come in both short and long models, while thermal shirts are available in both short and long sleeves.

Tip

Wash your thermal clothing according to the care instructions. This is important to maintain the clothing's functions.
