The biggest difference

The abbreviation AG in the name of a football boot indicates that the football boots are extremely suitable to wear on artificial turf. The biggest difference between a regular football boot and a turf shoe lies in the sole. The studs of a regular football boot are longer, whereas on artificial turf this can actually lead to injuries. A dedicated turf shoe offers more grip and less risk of injury, as this shoe has more studs, but these are shorter than the studs of a regular football boot. Because of the short studs, your agility is higher and you can make turning movements more easily.

Regular football boots on artificial turf

When you play football on artificial turf with regular football boots, the risk of suffering an injury is much greater than with turf shoes. The long studs of a regular football boot actually provide a lot of grip on natural grass, because they sink a little into the ground. On artificial turf this is different; there's a good chance you'll get stuck with the longer studs when you want to turn, which can cause a nasty injury to your knees or ankles.

Maintenance

After a training session or match, it's advisable to clean your shoes with a soft brush; shoes made of synthetic leather can optionally be cleaned with a bit of water as well. Take them straight out of your bag when you get home and let the shoes dry at room temperature. Don't put your shoes in the sun or on the heater, as the heat can damage the material of the shoes and cause them to shrink.

Tip

Every brand has drawn up a size chart, so you can always order exactly the right size without any surprises.
