Long-sleeve football shirts
In colder weather, long-sleeve football shirts offer extra warmth. Check out models from Nike and Jako.
Which long-sleeve football shirt suits me?
What matters most with a good shirt is that you can move freely and that the shirt is comfortable to wear. The shirt also needs to stay dry, even when you sweat a lot. That's why it's important not to buy a 100% cotton shirt. This material can't wick away sweat.
The shirt is worn when it's too cold to exercise in a regular T-shirt. It's important to keep the torso warm; when the torso is warm, the body has less trouble keeping the rest warm too.
Which fabric is best?
As already discussed, it's not practical to use a 100% cotton shirt. These shirts absorb sweat but don't wick it away afterwards. This causes sweat patches. It doesn't feel pleasant and causes the body to cool down quickly. A combination with a synthetic fabric works well.
There are also special technologies used in long-sleeve shirts. Nike has Nike Dri-Fit technology, which ensures sweat is quickly absorbed and then immediately wicked away. This keeps the shirt feeling dry and comfortable at all times. Other brands use technologies with the same effect. For example, Puma uses USP technology and Adidas uses Climalite.
Tip
Don't wash the shirt too hot. If you do, this will affect the technologies built into the shirt. Football shirts can be washed at 30 degrees Celsius. If the shirt is very dirty, it can be washed at a maximum of 40 degrees. Avoid fabric softener. This works against the elasticity of the fabric.
