When to Use a Training Pants?

Football pants, also known as training pants, are often worn before and after playing football. If it’s too cold to play in shorts, football pants can also be used during the game. Many athletes do their warm-up in long pants, which helps muscles warm up faster. The pants also keep the muscles warm until the match starts, reducing the risk of injuries. After training or a match, it’s also wise to wear long pants. They prevent the muscles from cooling down too quickly, reducing muscle soreness.

A good pair of football pants is made from breathable material, ensuring comfort. This is why they’re often worn in leisure time as well.

Prevent Injuries with Training Pants

It’s essential to ensure your muscles are warm before starting any sport, and wearing football pants contributes to this. Warm muscles are more flexible, which reduces the risk of injuries. After exercise, it’s also important to cool down muscles gradually. Most training pants have zippers at the bottom of the legs, making it easy to put them on or take them off over shoes.

In cold weather, it’s advisable to train in long pants. Cold temperatures reduce blood flow in exposed lower legs, resulting in muscles receiving fewer nutrients and less efficient removal of waste products. This causes muscles to tire more quickly and require more time to recover. We recommend wearing long pants when it’s 10 degrees Celsius or colder.

Training Pants Made from the Right Material

During football, the body sweats, and this moisture needs to be managed. Good pants not only absorb sweat but also ensure the fabric feels dry. Avoid pants made entirely of 100% cotton. While cotton absorbs moisture, it doesn’t wick it away, causing the pants to feel wet, cold, and heavy. A combination of cotton and synthetic fibers is a better option. Nike, for instance, offers advanced technology that keeps pants dry and comfortable, known as Nike Dri-Fit technology. Other brands offer similar innovations, like Adidas' ClimaLite technology.

Clothing should be comfortable, especially when used for sports. Training pants should allow freedom of movement; tight pants can hinder circulation and cause chafing. Always check the size chart before purchasing to ensure the right fit.

Tip

Football pants can be washed, but avoid using fabric softener as it damages technical fabrics, reducing their breathability. Do not tumble dry the pants; let them air-dry naturally. This will maximize their lifespan.
