When do you wear pants?

Football pants, also known as tracksuit bottoms, are often worn before and after playing football. When it's too cold to play in shorts, you can of course simply play in pants. Many athletes do their warm-up in long pants, which helps the muscles warm up faster. The pants also help keep the muscles warm until the match starts, reducing the risk of injury. After training or a match, it's also wise to wear long pants. This prevents the muscles from cooling down too quickly, resulting in less muscle soreness.

Good pants are made from good material so they breathe well. Pants are very comfortable to wear. As a result, they're also worn a lot in everyday life.

Prevent injuries with pants

It's important to make sure your muscles are warm before you start exercising. Wearing pants helps with this. When your muscles are warm, they're more flexible, which reduces the risk of injury. It's also important to let your muscles cool down gradually after exercising. Most pants have zips at the bottom of the legs, making it easy to pull the pants on over your shoes.

When it's cold, it's wise to exercise in long pants. Cold reduces blood flow in exposed lower legs. In that case, the muscles receive fewer nutrients and waste products aren't removed properly. This causes the muscles to become fatigued faster and need longer to recover properly. We recommend wearing long pants when it's 10 degrees Celsius or colder.

Pants made from the right material

During football, the body sweats, and this sweat needs to be wicked away. Good pants not only absorb moisture but also keep the fabric feeling dry. So don't choose pants made from 100% cotton. These pants absorb moisture but don't wick it away. As a result, the pants become wet and feel cold and heavy. A combination of cotton and a synthetic fabric is a good option. Nike has a smart technology that keeps pants feeling dry and comfortable, called Nike Dri-Fit technology. There are more brands with their own technology that works the same way as Nike's. One example is Adidas's ClimaLite technology. Clothing needs to fit well, especially when you're exercising in it. Pants need to offer plenty of freedom of movement during exercise. If they're too tight, this restricts blood circulation, which can cause chafing. So check the corresponding size charts before ordering, so you choose pants in your size.

Tip

Pants can simply go in the wash, but don't use fabric softener. This damages the technical fabrics, reducing their breathability. Also don't put the pants in the tumble dryer, but let them air dry naturally. This way, the pants will last as long as possible.
