What should I look out for?

There are a few differences between captain bands. For example, there's the elastic band, a fully round band without a fastening that can never come loose. Another type of captain band is the one with a Velcro fastening. Because the captain band with Velcro fastening is adjustable, it fits everyone, which is very handy if your team doesn't have a fixed captain!

It's important that the captain band has a different colour from the team shirt. This makes it easy for the referee to see who the captain is. It's not mandatory to wear the captain band on the left upper arm, but most footballers do. What is mandatory is that the band is worn around an upper arm and is about 10 cm wide.

Mourning band

When you wear a mourning band, it's expected to be worn on the left. This means the captain band is moved to the right upper arm. The mourning band is worn when someone has passed away. By wearing a mourning band, the whole team can pay their final respects to the deceased.
