Outdoor Rainsuits
What makes a good rain suit?
At Plutosport.nl you will find various rain suits for men, women, and children. The most important feature of a rain suit is its waterproofness, which is indicated in millimeters. You can read what these different values stand for in the overview below.
- From 0 mm: The rain suit is water-repellent but not waterproof.
- From 1,000 mm: The rain suit repels water but is not pressure-resistant. For example, if you sit on a wet chair, the rain pants will eventually start leaking.
- From 2,000 mm: The rain suit remains waterproof even during longer rain showers but may still leak under pressure.
- From 5,000 mm: The rain suit is resistant to long and intense weather, even under high pressure the pants remain waterproof. With very prolonged high pressure, the product may eventually start leaking.
- From 15,000 mm: The rain suit is resistant to extremely heavy rain showers and even underwater, the suit keeps you dry.
It is also important that the rain suit has breathable properties to prevent excess body heat from being trapped. We are happy to explain what else to look out for when purchasing a rain suit!
What are the characteristics of a good rain suit?
It is important that the rain suit is made of waterproof material that also has ventilating properties. Some rain suits come with a shoe cover to keep your feet dry. Additionally, it is nice if the suit has a hood. In this case, check if it is foldable so it does not obstruct your vision in windy conditions, for example. Check if sleeves, pant legs, and jacket pockets can be closed with Velcro, a drawstring, or zipper. Finally, make sure the rain pants have zippers or Velcro at the bottom for easy on and off.
How do I wash my rain suit?
The water resistance of a rain suit can decrease due to wear. Even after one wash, the water-resistant qualities can significantly diminish. Therefore, choose not to throw the suit in the washing machine but wipe it down with a sponge and warm water. For safety, read the washing label inside the rain suit. If the suit can be washed, do not use fabric softener. Dry the suit on a drying rack and avoid the sun and heating.
Tip
You generally wear a rain suit when the weather is gloomy or during the dark months. Most rain suits have reflective elements. You can complement your outfit with other reflective items.
