How do I choose the right men's football boots?

The first distinction to make concerns the sole of the shoe. Whether you play on natural grass, artificial turf, indoors or on the street, each type of pitch calls for specific boots. Depending on the surface you'll be playing on, you choose boots with the right sole. Wearing boots with the wrong sole can lead to nasty injuries.

Choose the right studs

The studs determine which type of surface the football boots are suitable for. Artificial turf boots have studs positioned close together. Boots used on soft pitches have long studs, boots for hard surfaces have short studs, and indoor shoes have no studs at all. There are 5 abbreviations used to indicate what type of football boot it is.

FG stands for firm ground, and these boots offer great grip on natural grass. The studs are elongated or short and are fixed to the sole. We recommend not using this type of boot on artificial turf. The boots wear out faster on artificial turf, which voids the manufacturer's warranty.

SG stands for soft ground, letting you play football on soft, wet pitches. The long, metal screw in studs provide plenty of grip, which prevents slipping.

TF stands for turf. The short studs under these boots offer good grip on a hard surface, such as turf and artificial grass pitches.

AG stands for artificial ground. The short, hard studs make them suitable for playing on artificial turf pitches.

IN stands for indoor, letting you play football in the indoor hall. The sole offers good grip on an indoor floor and lets you move with complete freedom.
MG stands for multiground, letting you play on both natural grass and artificial turf! They have both AG studs and FG studs, giving you enough grip on any pitch.

Leather or synthetic leather?

The upper is made from leather or synthetic leather. It's not that one of these materials is better than the other. Each material has its own pros and cons. The advantage of leather is that it breathes well and lasts a long time. Another advantage is that leather shapes itself to your feet, giving you more control. Leather boots do require more maintenance, though. Leather boots also retain more moisture. Football boots made from synthetic leather need less maintenance and can better handle changing weather conditions. These boots are also usually lighter, allowing more speed. Downsides can be that they don't last as long. These boots also shape themselves less well to your feet and breathe less than genuine leather boots.

How do I make men's football boots last longer?

After a training session or match, it's wise to clean them with a soft brush. Synthetic leather boots can be cleaned with water. Avoid cleaning products, as these can damage the stitching. Leather boots should be treated with leather grease regularly to keep them supple and prevent tearing. Take them out of your bag to let them dry and air out. Never place your football boots on the heater or in the sun to dry, as this causes them to dry out, making the boots less supple and more prone to tearing. If the boots are wet, stuff them with newspaper. The newspaper absorbs the moisture.
