How to Choose the Right Men's Football Boots

The first distinction to make is regarding the sole of the boot. Whether you play on natural grass, artificial grass, indoors, or on the street, each type of pitch requires specific boots. Depending on the surface you’ll be playing on, choose boots with the appropriate sole. Wearing boots with the wrong sole can lead to unpleasant injuries.

Choose the Right Studs

The studs determine which type of surface the football boots are suitable for. Artificial grass boots have studs that are close together. Boots for soft fields have long studs, boots for hard surfaces have short studs, and indoor boots have no studs at all. There are 5 abbreviations used to indicate the type of football boot:

FG stands for Firm Ground, and these boots offer excellent grip on natural grass. The studs are either elongated or short and are fixed to the sole. We recommend not using FG boots on artificial grass as they wear out faster, which voids the manufacturer's warranty.
SG stands for Soft Ground, and these boots are designed for playing on soft, wet fields. The long metal screw-in studs provide great grip, reducing the risk of slipping.
TF stands for Turf. The short studs on these boots provide good grip on hard surfaces, such as turf and artificial grass pitches.
AG stands for Artificial Ground. These boots have short, hard studs, making them suitable for playing on artificial grass fields.
IN stands for Indoor, meaning these boots are designed for indoor play. The sole provides good grip on indoor floors and allows for free movement.
MG stands for Multiground, which means you can use these boots on both natural grass and artificial grass! They feature a combination of AG and FG studs, providing ample grip on any field.

Leather or Synthetic Leather?

The upper part of the boots is made from either leather or synthetic leather. Neither material is inherently better than the other; each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Leather is breathable and durable, and it molds to your feet for better control. However, leather requires more maintenance and retains more moisture. Synthetic leather boots require less maintenance and are more resistant to varying weather conditions. They are usually lighter, which can enhance speed, but they may not last as long and may not mold to your feet as well or be as breathable as genuine leather.

How to Ensure Your Men's Football Boots Last Longer

After a training session or match, it’s wise to clean your boots with a soft brush. For synthetic leather boots, you can use water. Avoid cleaning agents as they can damage the stitching. Leather boots should be regularly treated with leather cream to keep them supple and prevent cracking. Remove the boots from your bag to let them dry and air out. Never dry your boots on a heater or in the sun, as this can dry them out and increase the risk of cracking. If the boots are wet, stuff them with newspaper to absorb the moisture.
