Hockey protection men

Hockey is of course not without danger, there's a chance you'll get hit by a hockey stick or a hard hockey ball. To protect you from these, there's mandatory and non-mandatory protective gear from Brabo, The Indian Maharadja and OPRO. A mouthguard and shinguards fall under mandatory protection, without dental protection and shinguards you simply can't go onto the hockey pitch. Hockey gloves aren't mandatory during a hockey match, but it's wise to wear them to protect your hands.

Why wear a hockey mouthguard?

Since 1 August 2015, mouthguards have been mandatory during matches organised by the federation. We also recommend wearing dental protection during less official matches or training. The mouthguard needs to fit well in the mouth, be easy to put in and take out, not interfere with breathing and talking, and be firm enough to offer protection. The mouthguard is available in an adult and a junior size.

Don't forget your hockey shinguards

Wearing shinguards is mandatory. They cover the shins and the top of the ankles and prevent bruises and sometimes even fractures if the hockey ball or the opponent's stick hits your shin. Most hockey shinguards are made of lightweight plastic and held in place with velcro.

Put your gloves on while playing hockey

Hockey gloves offer protection when the hockey stick is close to the ground and there's a chance you'll graze your hand on the ground or a ball comes at you. There are gloves that cover the whole hand and gloves that cover the hand and fingers but leave the thumb free, giving more freedom of movement. Did you know you're required to wear closed hockey gloves indoors?

Hockey mask while playing hockey

Hockey masks are meant to protect the face of the corner defender during penalty corners. They don't offer full head protection and therefore may not be worn by goalkeepers. Most hockey masks have adjustable velcro straps for a good fit.
