Why wear hockey shinguards?

To prevent bruising or contusions on your lower legs while playing hockey, it's wise to wear shinguards. They shouldn't be too loose, as they'll then shift and won't offer the desired protection. They also shouldn't be too tight, as they'll eventually start to pinch.

The best hockey shinguards

The best hockey shinguards fit so you barely notice them while playing, and are easy to put on. They should also be made from breathable material so perspiration can be easily carried away. You have the choice of wearing the shinguard with or without an ankle sock. With ankle sock, you mostly see this with juniors, because it's easy to put on. Already a senior player? Then it's down to your personal preference.

What size do I need?

With well-known hockey brands like Brabo and The Indian Maharadja, shinguards run from size XXXS to XL, so your size is always covered. Always check the size chart in the product descriptions beforehand.

Can I wash my shinguards?

Since you use the shinguards often, the chance of unpleasant odours is also greater. Most shinguards can be washed in the washing machine at a low temperature. Don't put them in the dryer afterwards, as they can shrink and warp.
