What tennis clothing do I need?
There are all kinds of tennis clothing. You have clothing that is suitable to wear in the summer, but also clothing that will keep you warm in the winter. Skirts and shorts, combined with a shirt, tank top or polo are worn in the summer. In the winter, you can opt for long tennis pants and a long-sleeved shirt or a sweater. The choice of your tennis clothing also depends on whether you play on an indoor or outdoor court. On a winter day, you are more likely to wear shorts or a tennis shirt with short sleeves on an indoor court than when playing outdoors. In short: the weather determines your tennis clothing!
What should good tennis clothing meet?
During tennis, it is important that the body temperature remains constant and the clothing you wear plays a big role in this. When you are exercising, your body generates heat. Sportswear should ensure that it retains the necessary heat, but excess heat should be removed. When the body is too cold or too warm, it impairs sports performance. When choosing tennis clothing, you should consider the clothing's ability to absorb and wick away perspiration. While exercising, you will sweat and clothing will become wet. Suitable tennis clothing has the ability to absorb this sweat and wick it away to the outside air. This keeps the clothing dry and comfortable. This process plays a major role in regulating body temperature during exercise. Opt for a tennis shirt that is (partly) made of synthetic fabrics. Cotton is considered a comfortable fabric, but is not suitable for sports. This fabric absorbs perspiration, but does not wick it away, leaving the clothing wet and heavy. Clothing made of a combination of cotton and a synthetic fabric is suitable for sports.
Tip
On warm, sunny days, choose light clothing. Light-colored clothing reflects sunlight, keeping your body cooler.
