What does a goalkeeper outfit consist of?

As a goalkeeper you often use your hands, so to protect them you need good gloves. To stop the ball you may sometimes need to dive to reach it. A goalkeeper shirt and pants have special padding and reinforcements, which protect you against bruises and grazes.

Gloves

You'll find gloves with or without fingersave. Gloves with fingersave have a kind of small splint behind the fingers, which stops your fingers from bending backwards. These gloves are therefore less flexible, but the chance of your fingers bending double is much smaller. Gloves without fingersave don't protect your fingers against bending backwards, but are more flexible and offer more grip and ball feel.

Pants

Long goalkeeper pants have extra reinforcement and padding at both the knees and hips. This padding absorbs impact and prevents grazes. Short goalkeeper pants only protect the hips. Goalkeeper pants are also made of material that quickly wicks away sweat, keeping your body feeling dry and comfortable.

Shirts

The main functions of a goalkeeper shirt are regulating body temperature and protecting against grazes and bruises. Goalkeeper shirts have protective padding at the elbows, exactly the spots you can land hard on when diving for the ball. The shirts are also made of material that breathes, partially blocks wind and wicks away sweat.
