Why a track jacket?

It's important for your muscles to be warm when you start a football training session or match. When your muscles are cold, that's almost asking for an injury. Cold muscles are less flexible, which makes the risk of muscle tears far greater than when you enter the pitch already warm. During a warm-up, especially on colder days, it's a good idea to wear a track jacket. This keeps your torso warm and stops you catching a chill. The torso is the core of your body, and when it's warm, it's easier for your body to keep the rest of you warm too.

Not just during exercise, but also after exercise, the body needs to gradually return to its normal temperature. It's definitely a good idea to do a cool-down after training or a match. This way you make sure your body temperature drops gradually, so you'll have less muscle soreness. Wear a track jacket to slow down your body cooling down too fast.

Track jacket against the rain

Once your body is wet, it's hard to keep it warm. There are many track jackets that not only keep the body warm, but are also rainproof. These often also have a hood so rain can't run down your neck. The fabric doesn't let water in, but does let sweat escape. This means the jacket doesn't stick to your body.

Many track jackets have a mesh lining, a mesh like material that carries away moisture and also optimises air circulation. This way you won't get too warm while training.

Tip

Wash the jacket inside out at 30 degrees Celsius. This keeps the jacket looking good for longer and preserves its functions.
