Football shorts
A well-fitting pair of football shorts makes all the difference during a match. Choose from models by Nike, Cruyff and Jako.
What to look for when buying football shorts?
Football shorts go through a lot, so they need to be made from strong material. You also want them to be comfortable to wear and to allow you to move freely. So when trying them on, check that you have enough room everywhere. You can test this by moving around a lot while trying them on, running a bit and kicking your leg up high. Finally, you don't want to be bothered by heat or cold while playing. So choose a material that wicks moisture away well.
What features should football shorts have?
Besides being strong and able to survive slides and pushing and pulling, football shorts are also expected to be light and well-ventilated. Polyester is a fabric that meets these requirements. Several brands make clever use of the properties of this fabric in their technologies. Puma football shorts, for example, feature Puma Cell technology, which provides optimal moisture wicking and good ventilation. Nike football shorts feature Nike Dri-Fit technology, which offers the same benefits. Make sure to check whether the football shorts have a waistband with a drawstring. This lets you adjust the shorts so they stay in place during play.
Why wear sliding shorts under your football shorts?
Since there's a good chance your football shorts will be covered in grass stains after a match, it's wise to wash them as soon as possible. Don't wait longer than a day. Football shorts can simply go in the washing machine, a normal 30-degree Celsius programme is enough. Many footballers wear sliding shorts under their football shorts, to prevent their skin from coming into direct contact with the (artificial) grass and getting grazed. Especially on cold days, sliding shorts help keep your body extra warm!
