When do you wear thermal pants while hiking?

Except for underwear, you wear thermal pants as the first layer on your skin. When you go hiking, it is important to stay dry and warm, even when you stop for a moment. Together with a matching thermal shirt, thermal pants ensure that you feel dry and don't get cold. Wear thermal pants in colder and rainy weather to keep your legs warm and dry for longer!

What are the characteristics of thermal pants?

Thermal pants should fit snugly around your legs. A layer of air forms between the thermal pants and your skin, which helps maintain your body temperature. If the pants are slightly looser, the layer becomes thicker and retains heat even better. The main focus of thermal pants is to provide warmth. Moisture wicking is slightly less important because the lower body generally sweats less than the upper body.

What material should my thermal pants be made of?

Thermal pants are often made of polyester. A good alternative is Merino wool. Both materials are lightweight and quick-drying. They also have the important property of wicking moisture away quickly. Merino wool is non-itchy and stays fresh. There are different models of thermal pants available, such as long and short variants. You can wear thermal pants under your hiking pants all year round. In colder months, thermal pants provide warmth, while in summer months, they offer cooling. The snug fit of the pants allows for full range of motion.

Tip

Wash your thermal pants according to the care instructions to maintain their important properties and enjoy them for as long as possible.
