Hockey balls
Hockey balls from Brabo, The Indian Maharadja and Reece come in different versions: official match balls, dimple balls for water-based pitches and street hockey balls for the garden. An official ball is hard, round and white during matches, with a circumference of 22.4 to 23.5 cm. Choose the right variant for the pitch you play on.
Requirements for an official hockey ball
An official hockey ball is hard and round and must meet the following conditions:
- The circumference of the ball may be 22.4 to 23.5 cm
- The weight is between 156 and 163 grams
- The ball may have various colours, except green due to the pitch
- White balls are mandatory during matches
- The material is plastic. The ball has a smooth outer surface, but a seam or small dimples in the surface are allowed
- When it snows, the white ball is replaced by a coloured one
If the hockey ball doesn't meet these requirements, the ball is not approved for matches. Of course the ball can still be used during training.
Different types of hockey balls
There are hockey balls for playing on sand pitches, so-called dimple balls for playing on water-based pitches, and hockey balls suitable for playing in the street. A dimple ball is a ball with small dimples in the surface. These balls are mainly used on water-based pitches, because this ball rolls faster and bounces less than a regular hockey ball. A street hockey ball is a hard, lightweight hockey ball made of PVC. These balls are very suitable for kids to play with in the street or garden.
