Why wear special cycling shoes?

With regular shoes or running shoes, there needs to be a good rolling off of the feet. For this, some extra space in the shoes is needed, which is not the case with cycling shoes. With cycling shoes, it is important that as much power as possible can be transferred from the shoe to the pedals. To transfer this power, cycling shoes are intentionally firm and stiff. The stiffer the sole, the better the power can be transferred.

What should a good cycling shoe meet?

Many kilometers are cycled on cycling shoes, so it is important that the shoes are comfortable. The shoe should not pinch and should be adjustable to your feet through the closures. The closures often consist of Velcro, buckles, or ratchet closures. Did you know that the type of cycling activity determines which cycling shoes you need? There are special road cycling shoes and for mountain biking shoes. Shoes with MTB in the product title are suitable for mountain bikers. These shoes are more flexible than standard road cycling shoes, as mountain bikers may need to dismount from their bikes due to the terrain. These shoes also have a more rugged profile, providing better grip.

How do I clip in my cycling shoes?

Under the stiff sole, at the instep, there is a place to attach a cleat. With these cleats, you can clip the shoes onto the pedals of the road bike, preventing feet from slipping off the pedals while cycling. In addition, more speed can be generated by being able to pull up on the pedals as well as push down.

How do I choose the right size cycling shoes?

It is important for cycling shoes to be the right size. Less space is needed than with other shoes, two to three millimeters of space between the front and the longest toe is enough. To determine your size, you can consult the size chart for the respective cycling shoe. Note that sizing may vary by brand. Still have questions about the cycling shoes?
