What do you need to go snorkling?

The basic equipment consists of a diving mask, a snorkel and optionally flippers. A snorklingset combines all these parts in one package, ideal if you're just starting out. With flippers you move more smoothly and energy-efficiently through the water.

Snorkling masks and full face masks

A regular diving mask covers the eyes and nose, a full face mask covers the entire face. The big advantage of a full face mask is that you can simply breathe through your nose and have a panoramic field of view. Always make sure the seal fits well — practise breathing on dry land or in the pool first before going into the sea.

Tips for beginners

Start calmly and practise breathing through the snorkel before going far into the water. Relax your body — a tense body makes breathing harder. Choose a location without strong currents and preferably don't snorkel alone. After snorkling, rinse all your gear with lukewarm fresh water to remove salt and sand.
