Men Thermal pants
The Base Layer
Aside from underwear, thermal pants are the first layer of clothing for your lower body. When you move, you produce sweat, and the thermal pants ensure that this moisture is absorbed and wicked away, keeping you warm and dry. You then wear ski pants over the thermal pants. Ski pants protect against snow, rain, and wind. By wearing these two layers, you ensure that you stay dry, warm, and comfortable on the slopes.
Features
The function of thermal pants is to keep your body warm and dry. This is achieved by the thermal pants absorbing and wicking away sweat, allowing your body to remain dry and retain heat. The warmth is generated by the air layer that forms between your skin and the thermal pants. If the pants fit a bit looser, the air layer is larger, providing even more warmth.
Your legs sweat less than your upper body, which is why thermal pants have a lower breathability than a thermal shirt.
Material
Merino wool and polyester are commonly used materials. These fabrics are lightweight and soft, effectively wicking away sweat quickly. They absorb very little moisture and have a high breathability. This keeps your legs dry and warm. Other characteristics include that Merino wool is non-itchy and remains fresh for a long time. Polyester is a material that retains its shape well. It’s important that you hardly feel like you’re wearing thermal pants.
Various Types
Thermal pants come in both long and short versions. Most thermal pants have an elastic waistband to ensure a snug fit and keep them in place. There are also thermal pants with an upper piece and a type of bib attached, which function like suspenders to prevent the pants from sliding down.
Tip
Read the product descriptions for the specific features of each pair of thermal pants.
