Men Thermal wear
Thermal Clothing for Men
On the slopes, you are moving actively one moment while sitting still on the ski lift the next. It is important for your body to maintain its temperature in both situations. Thermal clothing sits closest to your skin, right next to your underwear. The main functions of thermal clothing are to keep your body at the right temperature and to wick away moisture. Thermal clothing comes in various styles. The paragraphs below provide more information about this clothing layer.
Multiple Layers
The 3-layer system was developed to help you dress properly for winter sports. This system is a solid foundation for choosing your clothing to ensure you are well-prepared for all weather conditions. The clothing keeps you cool when you are active and warm when you are stationary. By dressing according to this 3-layer system, you are ready for anything. Layer 1 is the base layer: thermal clothing. This layer ensures you stay warm or cool and keeps your body dry. Layer 2 is the insulating or mid-layer: ski pullover. This layer helps transport moisture away and retains heat. Layer 3 is the waterproof or outer layer: ski jacket and ski pants. This layer protects you from rain, snow, and wind while wicking moisture away to the outside.
Thermal clothing falls under the first layer. An air layer between your skin and the thermal clothing helps retain the body heat produced. When thermal clothing is looser fitting, this insulating air layer is larger, allowing for better heat retention. The focus here is primarily on keeping your body warm. Thinner thermal clothing fits tighter against your body and primarily aims to wick away moisture. Consider what activity you will be doing in which weather conditions and base your choice of thermal clothing on that. If thermal clothing is too loose, air can get trapped underneath, negating the insulating function. Therefore, ensure that you wear thermal clothing in your own size.
Summer or Winter Thermal Clothing
Thermal clothing is available for all seasons. During the colder months, thermal clothing helps you stay warm. In the summer months, thermal clothing provides a cooling effect and keeps your body dry. You can say that the thicker the thermal clothing and the looser it fits around your body, the more emphasis is placed on retaining heat. The thinner the clothing and the tighter it fits, the more emphasis is placed on wicking away moisture.
Despite the often low temperatures during winter sports, you are very active, so you can quickly become warm. Therefore, do not wear overly thick thermal clothing while skiing. In this case, the thermal clothing should also be breathable.
Materials
Thermal clothing is often made from synthetic materials. These materials absorb very little moisture and wick sweat away quickly. Thermal clothing is also commonly made from Merino wool. Merino wool has similar properties to synthetic fabrics: it is lightweight and dries quickly. An added benefit is that Merino wool stays fresh longer. Additionally, this wool does not itch.
What Types of Thermal Clothing are Available?
Thermal clothing consists of thermal shirts and thermal pants. There are also thermal sets, which consist of a matching shirt and pants. Furthermore, there is a distinction between short and long styles. Both the pants and shirts come in long and short sleeve or leg variations.
Tip
Wash your thermal clothing according to the care instructions. If you do not, the technical fabrics may become damaged, and the thermal clothing can lose its function.
