The Right Outfit

As a referee, you need to wear a distinctive outfit. It must be clear that you are the referee. That's why referee clothing comes in different colors to the clothing worn by football players. Where this used to often be black clothing, nowadays it is also available in brightly colored variants. Referee clothing consists of a shirt, shorts and socks.

Handy Details

Referee clothing is fitted with handy details, such as various chest and leg pockets. In these pockets you can store the accessories you need as a referee. The chest pockets can usually be closed with velcro so you don't lose any items while running and following the game.

Referee shirts come with long and short sleeves. It is important that your upper body stays at the right temperature. If your upper body is warm, it is also easier for the rest of your body to stay warm. Choose the sleeve length that suits the outside temperature and that you feel comfortable in.

Which Material?

Referee clothing is made from material with moisture wicking properties. If you start to sweat, this material ensures that the moisture is carried away, keeping your body feeling dry and comfortable. If the clothing lacks this property, it becomes wet and heavy from sweat, making you cold. This increases the risk of injuries.

Choose an outfit made from a synthetic material, such as polyester. Polyester is lightweight, dries quickly, holds its shape and color, and carries away moisture well.

Tip

Wash referee clothing according to the washing instructions, so that its important properties are not lost. The instructions are on the label on the inside of the clothing. Never use fabric softener, and do not put the clothing in the dryer.
