The right football shorts

Football shorts need to be strong and durable. While playing football you sometimes make a slide tackle, or an opponent pulls at your clothing. The shorts take quite a beating during a training session or match, so it's important that the material is sturdy and doesn't tear easily.

You also need to be able to move freely. It's a good idea to move around while trying them on, take a short run and kick a leg up high. This gives you a good sense of whether the shorts fit comfortably and let you move freely. Most football shorts have an elastic waistband, sometimes with a drawstring. This lets the shorts fit closely to your body.

Another important property of football shorts is that they need to be made from material that's able to wick away sweat. Polyester is an example of a highly suitable material. Polyester has the advantages of being lightweight, drying quickly and wicking away moisture well.

Care instructions

After making a slide tackle, you sometimes end up with stubborn grass stains on your shorts. To prevent these stains from setting into the material, we recommend washing the shorts soon after a training session or match. This also gives sweat little chance to soak in and affect the important properties of the shorts.

The care instructions are listed on the label on the inside of the football shorts. It's best to avoid fabric softener, as it can damage the technical fabrics of the shorts. Don't put the shorts in the dryer, but hang them up instead.

Tip

Don't underestimate the importance of good football socks. These protect your feet. Wearing the right size is essential here too, reducing the risk of injuries to your feet.
