Surface

In competitive play, there are two types of football: futsal and field football. For field football, you can play on artificial turf, natural grass, or the street, and special balls have been designed for all of these surfaces. For example, artificial turf and street football require a durable ball, whereas durability is less of a concern for natural grass.

Futsal is played by adults with a so-called "puff ball." These balls have a lower bounce compared to outdoor balls, making futsal more focused on technique. An official futsal ball is size 4 and weighs between 400 and 440 grams.

There are also special balls for beach soccer. These balls have a soft outer layer and are water-resistant, making them ideal for use in and around water!

Training Ball or Match Ball?

A distinction is made between training balls and match balls, primarily based on the material. Match balls are always made from polyurethane, a durable and wear-resistant material. A polyurethane ball performs well under all weather conditions. A ball made from PVC, on the other hand, will react more to cold and rain and is therefore not suitable as a match ball. However, PVC balls can be used for training.

Size and Weight

Men's teams always use size 5 balls, which have a circumference of approximately 70 cm and weigh between 370 and 450 grams.

Tip

Read the product description carefully; it will detail all the specifications of the ball, such as which surface it is suitable for, the material it is made of, its weight, etc.
