The outfit

Everyone should be able to see who the referee is. Referee clothing is therefore a different colour from the players' kits. Black used to be a common colour, but nowadays you also see plenty of brightly coloured referee kits.

Handy details

As a referee, you carry several accessories that are essential for running the match smoothly. That's why referee clothing has multiple pockets on the shorts and chest. Accessories can be stored in these pockets. The chest pockets can be closed with velcro. This means you won't lose any items.

A referee's kit consists of a shirt, shorts and socks. Shirts come with long or short sleeves. It's important that your upper body in particular stays warm. A warm upper body makes it easier to keep the rest of your body warm too. Referee clothing is made from material that quickly wicks away sweat. This keeps your body feeling dry and comfortable. Polyester is often used. Polyester is lightweight, dries quickly and holds its shape and colour.

Tip

It's important to wash the clothing according to the care instructions. These are listed on the label inside the clothing. Don't use fabric softener, it can damage the clothing.
