What does a goalkeeper kit consist of?
A goalkeeper's main job is to stop goals. That makes a keeper's hands hugely important, and they deserve the right protection. But the body is also put through a lot. A goalkeeper stands still while their team is attacking. Once the opposition attacks, the keeper springs into action. Plenty of movement and the occasional dive for the ball come with the territory. Goalkeeper clothing has special padding and reinforcements built in, protecting your child's body against bruises and grazes.
Goalkeeper gloves
Goalkeeper gloves are a keeper's most important tool. You can get goalkeeper gloves with or without finger protection. Finger protection means the gloves have a kind of splint behind the fingers, so they can't bend backwards. This makes the gloves less flexible and gives less freedom of movement.
Goalkeeper gloves without finger protection are more flexible and offer more grip and ball feel. Young keepers who are just starting out are advised to use these gloves, since it trains and strengthens the hands and fingers.
Goalkeeper pants
There are short and long goalkeeper pants. The purpose of goalkeeper pants is to protect your child's lower body from grazes and bruises. Long goalkeeper pants have extra reinforcement and padding at both the hips and knees. Short goalkeeper pants only offer this protection at the hips.
Goalkeeper pants are made from material that quickly wicks away sweat, keeping your child's body dry and comfortable.
Goalkeeper shirts
Your child's upper body also needs protection. The elbows especially are prone to injury. That's why goalkeeper shirts have padding at the elbows, protecting them against grazes and bruises. Goalkeeper shirts are also made from moisture-wicking material and partly block the wind.
