The Right Goalkeeper Gloves for Children
Your hands take a lot of impact during goalkeeping, so it's important to protect them by wearing goalkeeper gloves. There are different types of gloves, and we will explain which types are available and how to properly care for them to ensure they last as long as possible.
Which Goalkeeper Gloves for Which Surface?
Just like with football shoes, it’s very important to use the right goalkeeper gloves for the surface you’re playing on! If you use goalkeeper gloves designed for natural grass on artificial turf, they will likely wear out much faster. Goalkeeper gloves for natural grass have a softer foam layer than those designed for artificial turf. This softer foam provides excellent grip but will wear out quickly if not used on the proper surface. If you mainly play on artificial turf or indoors, it’s best to choose hardground goalkeeper gloves. These gloves have a more durable foam layer, making them last longer. It doesn’t necessarily mean that goalkeeper gloves for natural grass are unsuitable for artificial turf or indoor use, and vice versa, but the gloves will last longer when used on the surface for which they were designed!
Goalkeeper Gloves with or without Fingersave
Goalkeeper gloves with Fingersave have a type of reinforcement behind the fingers to prevent them from bending backward. This reduces mobility and grip on the ball. Young goalkeepers are advised to start with gloves without Fingersave, as they help train and strengthen the hands and fingers. Later, you can switch to gloves with Fingersave if you need more protection, as they provide more safety than gloves without it.
How Do I Maintain My Goalkeeper Gloves?
To enjoy your goalkeeper gloves for as long as possible, it’s essential to take proper care of them. After training or a match, rinse the gloves with lukewarm water from the tap. Do not use a hard brush. Gently squeeze out the gloves, do not wring them out. Always keep the gloves damp to improve grip and extend their lifespan. If the gloves are stored for a while, make sure to occasionally dampen them to prevent drying out and cracking.
