Field Football

Field football can be played on natural grass or artificial turf, and there is no difference in the ball for these surfaces. So, the ball you use on natural grass can also be used for a game on artificial turf! Field footballs are often made from PVC or polyurethane. A PVC ball wears out faster than a polyurethane ball and is generally cheaper. Polyurethane is a durable and long-lasting material, so these balls can withstand various weather conditions well.

For children, it’s crucial that a football has the right weight and dimensions, as playing with a ball that is too heavy can strain their muscles and joints. Generally, footballs come in size 5, but the weight varies:

  • Children up to 10 years: 290 grams (size 4)
  • Children 10 – 15 years: 320 – 370 grams
  • Youth 15 – 18 years: 370 – 450 grams

Futsal

Futsal is played with a so-called ‘futsal ball’. These balls have a lower bounce than field footballs, which forces players to use more technical skills. A futsal ball is always size 4 and weighs between 400 and 440 grams. Futsal balls are often made from polyurethane, as it is a very durable and lightweight material.

Match and Training Balls

There is also a distinction between match balls and training balls, primarily based on the material. As you might know, polyurethane is a highly durable material, which is why it is used for match balls. Balls made from PVC are often used primarily for training purposes.

Tips

There are also special balls designed for playing on the beach! These balls have a soft outer layer, making them ideal for kicking with bare feet. Additionally, these balls are water-resistant.

The product descriptions for various footballs specify the surface they are suitable for, their size, weight, and other details.
