Children's Skates

As a young, beginner skater, it's best to start with the Easy Gliders from Zandstra, which allow you to wear your regular shoes. Additionally, these skates are adjustable in size, so they can grow with your child! The Easy Gliders have only one blade, requiring a sideways movement to move forward. This movement is also necessary when skating on speed skates, making the Easy Gliders the ideal skates to prepare your child for real skating. For the smallest skaters, there are double glide skates; the dual blades provide stability, allowing children to move confidently on the ice!

Once your child has mastered skating, you can make the switch to new "grown-up" skates! Nowadays, many skaters use combi speed skates, which have a higher boot than "regular" speed skates, offering more ankle support. Many combi skates are adjustable in size, making them suitable for multiple winters!

How to Store Your Skates

Skates are often wet after coming off the ice. To prevent the blades from rusting, it's essential to dry them properly! Always make sure to protect the blades when you’re not on the ice, for example, with skate guards. When you need to "walk" to a place where you can take off your skates or to cross an area where you cannot skate, the guards prevent the blades from dulling.

If you step off the ice and won’t be skating again that day, you can remove the skate guards and clean and dry the blades with a cloth. Wrap the skates in a dry towel and take them out of your bag at home to let them air dry. This prevents them from being damp and cold the next day, and it stops rust from affecting the blades.
