Mandatory

In 1999, the KNVB made it mandatory to wear shin guards during football matches. Since this decision, the KNVB has seen a 25% reduction in injury cases! These injuries include not only severe fractures but also bruises and wounds to the lower leg. By wearing shin guards, you significantly reduce your vulnerability and lower the risk of lower leg injuries!

Fit

As soon as you put on a shin guard, you can quickly feel whether it fits properly. If the shin guard pinches, it is too small and may hinder your movement. If the shin guard shifts around, it is too large and will not provide adequate protection! The correct size should cover about three-quarters of your shin, with the top of the shin guard being no more than five centimeters below the knee.

Tips

If you prefer shin guards without ankle socks, you can use so-called stay guards to prevent them from slipping down!

After use, let your shin guards dry thoroughly, for example, by hanging them on a clothesline. This helps prevent the growth of bacteria!

Although shin guards are only mandatory during a football match, it is also recommended to wear them during football training!
