Referee clothing for women
As a referee, you are recognisable in the official outfit for women.
The right clothing
As a referee, you make important decisions and make sure the match runs smoothly. Everyone needs to be able to see that you are the referee, so it is important that you wear clothing in a different colour than the players. Referee clothing used to consist mainly of black clothing. Nowadays you also see a lot of brightly coloured versions.
The details
Referee clothing consists of a shirt, shorts and socks. The difference with a football outfit is that referee clothing has various pockets on the shorts and chest. The accessories you need as a referee, such as cards and a whistle, can be stored in these pockets. The chest pockets have a velcro fastening, so you cannot lose your things. Referee shirts come with long and short sleeves. Make sure your upper body is warm and stays warm. If your upper body is warm, the rest of your body can be kept warm more easily too.
The material
Because you are moving, you may start to sweat. This perspiration needs to be carried away to keep your body dry. If the clothing is not able to wick away perspiration, the clothing becomes wet and heavy and feels cold. Your body cools down and the risk of injury increases. So choose a material that wicks moisture away well, such as polyester. Polyester is lightweight, dries quickly and wicks away moisture fast.
Some brands add the moisture-wicking property through their own technology. Adidas, for example, uses ClimaCool technology to make sure perspiration is wicked away quickly, keeping you feeling dry and cool.
Tip
Wash your clothing according to the washing instructions. These can be found on the labels on the inside of the clothing. Do not wash the clothing too hot and do not use fabric softener. This can damage the clothing.
