Choose the Right Running Shirt

When running, you don’t want to be bothered by cold or dampness. A running shirt is made of materials that effectively wick away sweat, ensuring you stay dry and maintain the right body temperature. Running shirts come in various styles.

Dressed for All Weather Conditions

Running shirts are available with long sleeves, short sleeves, or even sleeveless. Depending on the weather, you can choose the appropriate style. The 3-layer system provides guidance for dressing properly for a run:

  1. The first layer is a thermal shirt.
  2. The second layer is a running shirt.
  3. The third layer is a running jacket.

Each layer should wick away sweat effectively. The thermal shirt also regulates body heat, while the running jacket protects against wind and rain.

Material

Polyester is a commonly used material for running shirts because it’s lightweight, wicks away sweat effectively, dries quickly, and retains its shape.

Some running shirts feature optimal ventilation through mesh inserts on the sides. Additionally, running shirts may include reflective details to improve visibility in the dark. Some shirts also offer UV protection. Look out for features like a small zippered pocket for storing keys or other small items.

Most running shirts have a crew neck, but some have a stand-up collar with a short zipper, making them easy to put on or take off. The zipper can also be opened for additional ventilation.

Technology

Certain brands incorporate their own technologies into running shirts, such as:

  • Mizuno's DryLite Technology: Wicks away sweat.
  • Under Armour's HeatGear Technology: Keeps you feeling cool, dry, and comfortable.
  • Rogelli's DynaCool Technology: Ensures the shirt is quick-drying, breathable, and moisture-wicking.

Washing Instructions

Wash your running shirt soon after your workout to prevent sweat from setting into the fabric. Avoid using fabric softener, and do not tumble dry the shirt. Follow the washing instructions on the label inside the shirt to maintain its functionality.
