What is a Ski Pullover?

The ski pullover is worn over your thermal clothing and underneath your ski jacket, making it the second layer, also known as the insulating layer. As you work your way down the slopes as neatly, quickly, or spectacularly as possible, you generate heat. This layer is slightly looser around the body, creating an insulating layer of air between it and the thermal clothing. This way, the generated heat is retained, helping to keep your body at a comfortable temperature. Additionally, the ski pullover wicks moisture away to the outer layer.

What is a Ski Pullover Made Of?

Most ski pullovers are made from a combination of polyester and elastane. Polyester comes in many different forms; for example, fleece ski pullovers are largely made of polyester, while smooth ski pullovers contain about 90% polyester. The major advantages of polyester are that it is a lightweight fabric and quickly wicks moisture away, keeping your body dry and preventing rapid cooling. Because many ski pullovers contain about 10% elastic fabric, they always provide plenty of comfort and freedom of movement—essential for a day on the slopes.

You can play around with the second layer to make the temperature as comfortable as possible for yourself. Most ski pullovers feature a zipper, which you can open if you get too warm. You can also skip this layer on very warm days or double up on extremely cold days.
