UV shirts
On a sunny day on the water, you burn faster than you think. A UV shirt from O'Neill, Roxy or Quiksilver offers protection from the sun, even after swimming.
UV protection
Water amplifies the sun's rays, making you burn faster on the water. A UV shirt often offers the same protection as sunscreen with a factor of 50, which is indicated in the product description. The advantage over sunscreen: the shirt is waterproof and offers the same protection even after swimming. For vulnerable children's skin, a UV shirt is indispensable when sailing or supping.
Material
Most UV shirts are made of lycra, nylon, polyester, spandex or a combination of these: water-repellent, elastic and quick-drying. This way you can swim without the shirt becoming heavy. Flat seams also prevent the (wet) shirt from chafing.
Tip
A UV shirt only covers part of the body. So still apply sunscreen to the rest.
