Tennis Socks
Which socks should I wear while playing tennis?
Do not wear regular socks while playing tennis, this is asking for trouble! Socks worn in everyday life have thick seams that can cause pressure points during sports. Blisters can develop at these points, which can take away the enjoyment of playing tennis. Regular socks also often do not wick sweat well enough, resulting in uncomfortable, wet socks. Additionally, it is wise to wear tennis socks that come (at least) a bit above the shoe. By wearing short socks, there is a high chance that gravel or sand will get into the shoes, causing blisters and other irritations.
What material should tennis socks be made of?
Many socks are made of cotton, but this is not a suitable fabric for tennis socks. During tennis, a lot of perspiration moisture is produced from the feet, and this moisture needs to be removed. Suitable tennis socks quickly absorb this sweat and then transfer it to the shoes. Cotton absorbs sweat but does not release it afterwards, leaving the socks wet and cold. Many tennis socks are made of merino wool or a synthetic fiber. These materials have the property of quickly wicking away sweat. Because there is a lot of pressure on the feet during tennis, many tennis socks also have special cushioning. X-Socks tennis socks provide extra cushioning for the toes, heel, and Achilles tendon for more protection and support. Tennis players with strong feet can also wear running socks while playing tennis.
Tips
Wool socks should not be washed too hot, do not wash them higher than 30°C. Socks made of a synthetic fiber can be washed up to 40°C. Always let the tennis socks dry naturally. Putting the socks in the dryer can lead to loss of functionality.
