Choosing the right tennis shirt

Most regular, lifestyle T-shirts are made of cotton, which is not suitable for sports. When exercising, your body will sweat, so it is important to wear a material that wicks away sweat. Cotton is not suitable for this, causing the shirt to become wet, heavy, and uncomfortable. This is exactly what you don't want when you're working out. A shirt made of a synthetic fabric, such as polyester, is suitable for sports. This fabric absorbs moisture and quickly releases it to the outside air. This keeps the shirt dry and comfortable. A combination of synthetic materials with cotton is also an option. The properties of both fabrics come together to provide optimal comfort, with the synthetic fabric wicking away sweat and the comfort of cotton. You can fully focus on the game without being bothered by your clothing.

T-shirts from well-known brands often incorporate technologies that help absorb and release moisture even faster. Brands like Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour use these technologies. Nike calls it Dri-Fit, Adidas has ClimaLite, and Under Armour uses Heatgear technology. All these technologies offer the same benefits, keeping the shirts extra dry and comfortable.

Wearing tennis shirts with long or short sleeves?

Whether you wear tennis shirts with long or short sleeves depends on your own preference and whether you play on an indoor or outdoor court. If you're playing on an outdoor court on a cold and/or rainy autumn day, you might opt for a long-sleeve tennis shirt or a short-sleeve tennis shirt with a training jacket over it. The advantage of a long-sleeve tennis shirt is that it keeps you dry and warm. If you're playing indoors or on a warm day, a short-sleeve tennis shirt is best. Sweat is quickly removed, and your body stays cool. If it's extremely hot outside, you can also opt for a tank top.

Tip

For the best comfort, it's important to wear the right size shirt. Therefore, first check the size chart provided with the shirt. This can vary by brand.
Proper washing is also important to maintain the shirt's shape; polyester can be washed at a low temperature (maximum 40°C). It's better not to put the shirt in the dryer but to let it dry naturally.
