Types of goggles

There are different goggles for men, women and kids. What matters most is a good fit around the head. When buying, check whether the nose bridge is adjustable. With a monobloc system it adjusts automatically; with an adjustable system you set it yourself. Some models come with interchangeable nose bridges in 3 sizes.

Lens colour matters too. Swimming outdoors or in a bright pool calls for dark or photochromic lenses, which adjust automatically to the light. In a dimly lit pool, go for clear or light-tinted lenses.

Bigger goggles tend to be more comfortable, but competitive swimmers should pick a smaller pair for less drag.

Maintenance

• Rinse your goggles with clear, cold water after every use
• Don't leave them in direct sunlight, this can damage the strap and other parts
• Protect the lenses from salt and grease
• Don't touch the inside of the lenses, even with a cloth, this can damage the anti-fog coating
