What should you consider when buying sliding shorts?
Before buying sliding shorts, it's important to know a few things. What are they for? When do they fit well? And what colour should I wear? We're happy to help answer these questions.
The benefits of sliding shorts?
Sliding shorts protect your body while making slides. If you make a slide without wearing sliding shorts, there's a big risk of grazes on the side of your thigh. Especially if the slide happens on artificial turf. Because sliding shorts fit tightly, they don't ride up and prevent bare skin from scraping across the pitch during a slide. The shorts also offer protection against the cold. There are also sliding shorts that also work as compression shorts. This means the shorts fit tightly enough to reduce muscle vibrations. This counteracts fatigue and reduces the risk of injuries.
Sliding shorts can simply be worn under your regular shorts. Just make sure the shorts are longer than the sliding shorts. No other colour is allowed to show below the team shorts. It's not checked very strictly, but it's not allowed. If the sliding shorts are the same colour, it's not a problem.
Technologies in sliding shorts
Nike's shorts don't just offer protection, they're also compression shorts. These put extra pressure on the leg muscles. Vibrations are minimised, which counteracts fatigue and reduces the risk of injuries. So you can keep going longer and recover faster. Nike's sliding shorts also have built-in carbon panels that reduce wear on the sliding shorts. Thanks to Dri-Fit and Stay-Cool technologies, you stay dry and cool during training or a match. Erima uses Silver+ technology, which prevents unpleasant odours while playing sport.
Tip
After playing sport, it's important to wash the shorts as soon as possible. This stops unpleasant odours from setting into the fabric, and keeps the material supple.
Pay close attention to the washing instructions, wash the sliding shorts at 30 degrees Celsius, with a small amount of detergent. Never use fabric softener, as this takes the stretch out of the fabric. Then let the shorts dry naturally.
