Rain boots

A good rain boot from Bergstein or Hunter needs plenty of grip, since you often walk on wet and slippery ground. Rain boots are made from rubber, a supple material that doesn't let water through, making them comfortable and not stiff to wear. They do offer less ankle support than a hiking shoe, though, and are therefore less suited for long treks.

What makes good rain boots?

A good rain boot needs plenty of grip because you're walking on wet and slippery ground. The coarse soles mean you needn't worry about slipping on slick surfaces. The boots do offer less ankle support than regular hiking shoes, though. Rain boots are therefore also not suitable for long hikes. Rain boots are made from rubber, a supple material that doesn't let water through. Thanks to the rubber, rain boots are also comfortable and not stiff. Ventilation in a rain boot is noticeably less than in a high or low hiking shoe. We therefore recommend wearing thick woollen socks in the boots. Wool absorbs perspiration, keeping feet dry for as long as possible.

How do rain boots fit?

Buy rain boots in the same size as your own shoes; rain boots are known for running a bit wide. Should a particular size run bigger or smaller, this is always clearly stated in the product description. Rain boots at Plutosport.nl are available in all kinds of fun colours and prints, letting you add a cheerful touch to a gloomy, rainy day regardless. Children don't avoid a puddle when it's raining a bit, which is why boots in lots of colours and patterns are available especially for them. You'll find rain boots for both young (junior) and old (women and men) in the webshop!

Short rain boots versus tall rain boots

Rain boots keep getting trendier! You can see that not only in the different colours, but also in the different heights. Short rain boots are especially popular among women and festival-goers. With short rain boots you get the big advantage of keeping your feet dry while also looking really fashionable! Tall rain boots naturally offer more protection against cold weather conditions, keeping not just your feet dry but also the bottom of your trousers. Although rain boots used to be mainly shapeless and functional, they're becoming increasingly fashionable nowadays while of course remaining functional.

Tip

To keep rain boots waterproof for as long as possible, it's wise to spray the boots once a month with a nourishing, protective spray. If you don't do this, the rain boots will eventually dry out. This creates small cracks, causing the rain boots to lose their waterproof effect.
