Outdoor high cut shoes
Why buy high hiking boots?
When the terrain changes from flat to mountainous and uneven paths, it is wise to wear hiking boots with a higher shaft. On uneven paths, you can quickly make a misstep which can cause an ankle sprain. The high hiking boots provide more support to the ankles to prevent this.
Also, when walking with a heavy backpack, it is useful to wear high hiking boots. With a heavy backpack on your back, a misstep can easily happen. In addition, the extra weight of the backpack puts extra pressure on the ankles, and extra support from the shoes is not superfluous.
The best high hiking boots
At Plutosport.nl you will find various high hiking boots for both women and men, and we also have a wide range. For example, the hiking boots from GriSport are equipped with Spo-Tex, Gritex, or Sympatex membrane. This ensures that the shoes are waterproof and breathable during the walk. The most famous hiking boot from LOWA is the RENEGADE, this model has been around for over 25 years and is extremely popular among hikers.
High hiking boots versus low hiking boots
For shorter walks on flat paths, low hiking boots are sufficient. When you are going to walk more kilometers or the paths are not flat, we recommend wearing high boots. For people with weak ankles, it is also advisable to use high hiking boots even for shorter walks.
In the Netherlands, it is inevitable that paths are sometimes wet, or that it starts to rain during a walk. High hiking boots offer better protection against this than low hiking boots. Due to the high shafts, rainwater enters the shoes less quickly. This keeps the feet drier, which provides more walking comfort.
Categories of hiking boots
Hiking boots are available in different categories, a category indicates to what extent a shoe is suitable for more challenging hikes.
- Category A is the lightest category, these hiking boots are suitable for daily walks on flat terrains.
- Hiking boots from category B have a sturdier sole than those from category A. Category B shoes are therefore more suitable for hikes through hilly areas.
- Hiking boots from category C go even further, you can even wear them during heavy hikes with heavy gear!
Tip
Make sure the high hiking boots are well broken in before taking long walks with them. The high hiking boots should fit well to your foot first, and if this is not yet the case, the chance of blisters is greater.
